mapdango™ is a mashup that combines content from several sources, including Google Maps, Panoramio, Google News, Amazon Books, YouTube, and more. The goal for mapdango is to have a one-stop shop where visitors can search and view for information about any given location around the world. Based on the original award-winning mashup that won 'Best Mashup' at MashupCamp, the second generation of mapdango™ integrates several different views of a place, including a dashboard view, map view, social view (that includes content from major social networking sites), and a SWAG (stuff we all get) view that allows visitors to generate personalized, location-specific items such as t-shirts, mugs, and bumper stickers.
As part of our mission to encourage exploration of the world around us, mapdango™ now includes a new feature called 'Place of the Day.' This new feature allows visitors to subscribe to an RSS feed that updates every day with a new, random location around the world. It's quite addictive, and we have made it as easy as possible for users to learn about a new part of the planet every day.
We have included an RSS feed to make it even easier for users to stay up to date on the latest Place of the Day
Use the dashboard as a starting point to learn about a place. You can view photos, videos, news, events, articles, and weather information.
Use the map to get geographic context for much of the content displayed in the dashboard and social view.
mapdango™ is the first map mashup to use Google's FriendConnect social service, which allows users to sign in, add comments, invite friends, and upload their own photos. FriendConnect is still in its early stages, but we hope to see users join the mapdango™ community to increase participation and communication with regard to a specific place. The Social view also includes content from Digg, FriendFeed, and Google's Blog Search service.
mapdango™ is still in a beta release, meaning that users may sometimes (though we hope seldom) exeprience anomalies or errors. We are working hard to make sure that all of the functionality available on the site is as good as possible. If you find any issues, we would appreciate hearing about your experience: you can contact us at the CartoSoft site.
